Arthur Blessitt is a Christian evangelist and missionary who is best known for carrying a cross around the world. He was born in Mississippi in 1940 and grew up in a fundamentalist Christian family. In 1969, he felt called by God to carry a wooden cross on his shoulder as a symbol of his faith.

Blessitt began his cross-carrying journey in Hollywood, California, and went on to carry the cross through 324 countries and territories over the course of more than 50 years. He has faced numerous challenges and dangers during his travels, including arrests, beatings, and death threats.
